| The
Vistorta estate, situated in western Friuli and covering an
area of 200 hectares, has belonged to the Brandolini family
since 1780 and is managed by Count Brandino Brandolini d'Adda.
The experience and know-how gained in the Bordeaux area plus
a strong entrepreneurial spirit have been applied by Brandolini
in the 30 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Merlot.
Today, the Vistorta estate is the result of the work of Guido
Brandolini whose wine-cellar was already famous in the 19th
century for the exceptional quality of its wines. Working together
with oenologist George Pauli (a wine-maker from Chateau Gruaud-Larose
in the Medoc district), Brandino Brandolini planted new high-density
vineyards with French clones and introduced careful vine cultivation
where each bunch is selected in order to produce the best wine.
The combination of low yields per hectare, modern wine-making
methods and small oak casks with a touch of French refinement
makes Vistorta Merlot one of the great Italian red wines. |
